Seaven Tear s is a performance that explores the coexistence of multiple temporalities, unfolding as a living palimpsest where layers of sound, memory, and meaning, continuously surface and recede. It reflects on the fragile act of remembering—how we recall, retell, forget, and invent—and how these shifting recollections shape the realities we inhabit. In Seaven Tear s, what is remembered becomes real, and memory itself becomes a selective, generative force—constantly rewriting the present through echoes of the past.
Inspired by John Dowland’s Lachrymae (1604), a suite of seven melancholic pavanes originally written for lute and viol consort, Seaven Tear s reimagines this intimate ensemble for the present day: lute, viola, accordion, and early analog electronics. Each instrument occupies a distinct temporal and interpretive layer—some adhering closely to the original material, others fragmenting or filtering it through improvisation and electronic processing.
